NTLworld email accounts wont work on iPhone 5

Have just upgraded from iPhone 4. Everything restored from backup perfectly apart from my email accounts.

Have searched the forums already and tried changing to virginmedia pop and imap addresses: have activated imap on my account on Virgin site; also tried setting up mail via Microsoft Exchange per another forum suggestion.

Nothing seems to work. I had thought about just calling it a day with regards the mail side of things but it is a fundamental part of the iOS system and the iPhones abilities.

Can anybody suggest anything else?

@virgin.net
@virginmedia.com
